Humboldt’s Friday Fishing Report 11/11/2016

Reports

Oceans:

Dungeness Crab – Dungeness crab season opened with rough ocean conditions and there were small windows of opportunity to soak some pots. For those lucky enough to dump some pots, they were rewarded with a decent catch. Keep watch for the swell conditions for the open ocean or try out bay areas.

Point Reyes commercial crab season will open on Nov. 15, but some areas are closed due to high levels of domoic acid. The commercial Dungeness crab fishery will remain closed between Point Reyes and the Sonoma/Mendocino county line due to safety and will remain in effect until officials determine there are no longer safety risks.

Rivers:

Chetco – Reports have been decent downriver  but slowing with the decreased river flow. Roe and plugs have been most effective.

Smith The salmon fishing has slowed down as the river continues to clear up from decreased flow. The flows will continue to drop based on weather forecasts through the weekend.

Trinity- Fishery crews mapped 52 redds (1,380 total for the year) in the Reaches from Lewiston Dam  to Cedar Flat. The fish continue to trickle into Trinity River Hatchery with an increase of 183 to 267 total adult Chinook.

Eel River/South Fork – The fishing has been sporadic along the Eel with reports of large Steelhead being caught in the past weeks. Plugs and bait have been effective.
