Humboldt’s Friday Fishing Report 11/18/2016

Reports

Oceans:

Dungeness Crab – Dungeness crab reports have been good outside of Humboldt Bay when conditions have allowed. Decent sizes and quality too.

Point Reyes commercial crab season opened on Nov. 15, but some areas are closed due to high levels of domoic acid. The commercial Dungeness crab fishery will remain closed between Point Reyes and the Sonoma/Mendocino county line due to safety and will remain in effect until officials determine there are no longer safety risks.

Rivers:

Chetco Chinook/ King Salmon reports have been slow but picking up as fish enter the system with the increased river flow. Roe and plugs have been most effective. Steelhead should be making their way soon.

Smith  Chinook/ King Salmon reports have been good as fish enter the system with the increased river flow. Steelhead should be making their way soon.

Trinity- This week crews mapped 124 redds (1,560 total for the year) in the Reaches from Lewiston Dam to Cedar Flat. The majority of Chinook Salmon have completed their spawning in the mainstem Trinity River. Coho salmon have been seen moving upstream and should begin spawning soon. There are reports of Chinook, Coho and Steelhead.

Mad River – no reports and forecasts for high flows in the next several days. Steelhead should be making their way soon.

Van Duzen- no reports and forecasts for high flows in the next several days.

Eel River/South Fork – The fishing has been sporadic along the Eel with reports of large Steelhead being caught in the past weeks. Forecasts for high flows in the next several days. Plugs and bait have been effective.
